The Session February 2025: The best beer you can drink at home right now
Today is The Session from @boakandbailey – read on!
The prompt: the best beer you can drink at home right now.
Obvi I’m gonna be a little clever about it 😇
My answer: a beer from a place far flung. Beers that you’ve carefully selected on the last day of a trip, placed in bubble wrap, smothered in cotton wool, suffocated in socks, then couriered among clothes in your delicate suitcase and received off the baggage claim with a brief prayer to Dionysus that they’ll have arrived unscathed.
And then brought home, like home-home, as if they were a newborn. What do you do with them now? Savour immediately (as those hoppy US cans insist) or save for a special occasion (a Belgian bottle to age for ages)?
Whatever the answer (and somewhere in the middle is permissible – when exactly Are you meant to drink a Sauerkraut Gose from Latvia?) the moment of truth is a magical one.
Even just holding the beer can take you back to wherever it was procured, recalling the moment you chose it, with maybe a different climate on your skin, a different language the shopkeeper is using to explain it, certainly a different currency you’re furiously trying to convert in your head to see if this is a rip off or a bargain.
You pour it into a glass it doesn’t fit with, the aroma starts hitting you, the colour might surprise you…and then it’s photo time. You didn’t bring back the best beer to drink at home just to enjoy it without evidence, did you?!
But in the background, home doesn’t have ocean views, or culturally significant interior design, or friends from afar, so let’s face it – your photo is gonna suck. Nobody cares. And you shouldn’t either, because you’re at your own home, having your own experience, with the best beer to drink at home right now.
The one with maximum effort up until this point, and no effort once you take that first sip.
You drink it. The photo goes to your camera roll graveyard. You sit back in your sofa and say cheers to yourself. You smile and savour the journey.

In honour of all the terrible photos of beers from afar, here are a selection of ours that should never see the light of day. Scroll for a chuckle 😅🍻🌍🏠
